Justin Timberlake didn’t just make any old ordinary comeback to music last week, he made history. The pop star, who hasn’t released an album since 2006, saw his new single "Suit & Tie" climb the Billboard charts at a record pace.
On its way to debuting at No. 14 on the Billboard 100 chart, the Jay-Z-assisted song recorded the highest first-week plays total in the charts 20-year history. According to Nielsen BDS, which monitors mainstream Top 40 radio airplay, "Suit & Tie" garnered 6,045 spins for the week of Jan. 14 to 20. That mark eclipsed the previous high of 4,602 set by Lady Gaga’s "Born This Way."
JT also claimed the crown for the highest-debuting song by a male artist on the Pop Songs charts. Digital sales of the single came in just over 310,000 for the first week.
