Beyoncé and Jay-Z Lose Blue Ivy Trademark Battle

Court rules in favor of Boston-based events company.

As parents, Jay-Z and Beyoncé want more than anything to protect their child...and future business interests related to their child. The Carters had been looking to do the latter by trademarking the name of their daughter, Blue Ivy, but lost that battle in court recently, the Boston Herald reports.

Beyoncé allegedly was interested in trademarking the name for use on a line of baby clothes, but it was already taken by a woman in Boston who had been running the Blue Ivy Events company since 2009.

The Carters were sent a rejection letter from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which sided with the events planner and granted her a wide range of rights to use the name to promote her business. Even Jay and Bey can't have it all.
